What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the manual massage and manipulation of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissues of the body. The massage therapist uses their hands, hot stones, therapy tools and stretching. Massage Therapy is most commonly used for relief of muscle and soft tissue pain resulting from overuse, injury or due to a chronic pain condition.

Will there be pain during the massage?

Massage Therapy almost always feels wonderful, soothing and very pleasant. Massage Therapy is not intended to be painful. Some of the deep tissue techniques may feel uncomfortable. If at any time during your massage session, you are uncomfortable with the pressure, let your massage therapist know immediately. Your therapist will promptly adjust the pressure to your comfort level. Your comfort is most important during the session. Always communicate with your therapist. This will lead to the best possible outcome for your massage therapy session.

Is it ok to chat during the massage

Talking is ok during your massage, however we recommend that you relax and talk as little as possible. You will get more benefit from the massage if you are relaxing and the therapist will be able to focus on the massage better. There will be time for questions during the interview before the session begins. If there is anything you want to communicate to your therapist about your massage session, please do speak up, so that you receive the best massage possible for your needs.

What are the benefits of Massage Therapy?

The benefits of massage therapy are many. Depending on the style of massage therapy you receive, your benefits will vary. Increased circulation, and flexibility, reduced stress and muscle tension are very common results. Other benefits include an improvement in posture, digestion, overall wellbeing both physically and mentally. Massage therapy will relax your body and your mind.

What do I wear during the massage session?

You will want to undress to your level of comfort. It is recommended to completely undress or leave only your underwear on. You will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times. The therapist will carefully undrape the area to be worked on at that moment. The sheets will be carefully tucked in so you are completely covered except for the back, neck, arm or leg that is about to be massaged. The client’s modesty is greatly respected at all times. The therapist will be using lotion or gel during the massage therapy session.
