Geriatric Massage Therapy

Geriatric Massage Therapy is designed to meet the specific and individual needs of the elderly population. Meeting the massage therapy needs of an elder person differs significantly from a younger person, and requires sensitivity and informed assessment and treatment skills by the therapist.

Geriatric massage is a gentle, light massage of the muscles and soft tissues to increase circulation, relieve pain, relax tight muscles, and increase range of motion. Elder massage may also include gentle movement of the joints to increase mobility and blood flow to the joint area. The results are often pain relief combined with a feeling of wellbeing, physically, psychologically and emotionally.

Additional benefits of geriatric massage therapy may include, improved sleep, relief of stress, anxiety, depression and loneliness. Mental and physical relaxation will likely improve. Geriatric massage can also provide comfort to touch-deprived elders and improve their quality of life.

Our massage therapy rooms and massage tables are warmed to keep elders comfortable if they chill easier due to changes in hormones, insulating body fat and hair loss and poor circulation.

If there are specific health conditions, a doctor approval is required before proceeding with massage therapy. There are certain conditions that are not recommended for massage. Once you have your doctor’s permission, you are able to set your appointment.
